Best Route from Crocodile Bridge Gate to Skukuza

Crocodile Bridge gate is another convenient gate to enter from Johannesburg with a total distance of 450km and an approximate travel time of four and a half hours.

Summary of Route to take:
H4-2 , turn right onto H10 , turn left onto S29, continue on S30, turn left onto H12 , turn right onto H4-1.

Crocodile bridge is a great gate to enter the park as all routes to Skukuza offer an abundance of game viewing and the big 5 especially. Entering the park will take you on to the H4-2 road, the vurhami pride of lions are often seen a few kilometers away from the gate around the the vurhami bridge. We have seen the big 5 around this area on different occasions.

You have two road options to make your way up to Lower Sabie,  you can continue on the H4-2 and that will take you on a 35km tar road to Lower Sabie which we recommend for early morning drives and the alternative road is the S28 which offers an equal chance of seeing good game and even cheetah.

Once completing the H4-2 or the S28 turn right on to the H10. The H10 is a great road to see lion elephant and buffalo, large herds of buffalos are often seen crossing the road.

In our opinion the H10 is the best road to see cheetah with its open landscape it’s best suited for them. We have seen cheetahs on numerous occasions on this road.

You will then turn left on to the S29 and head to the S30 which is a gravel road that takes you to the big level bridge between Skukuza and Lower Sabie.

The S30 is a surprising road that offers some special sightings we have on seen leopard as well as a large pack of wild dogs on this road, and we were lucky enough to be the only car at the sighting. Once you reach the end of the S30 you will continue on left on the H12 and then taking a right on to the H4-1 which will take you to Skukuza.
